In the 1950s and 1960s many new shunters were delivered to the German Railways. Many of them are still active today, although they got remote control (rebuilt from 360/361 into 364/364) and - from 1997 - a new Caterpillar engine (rebuilt from 364/365 into 362/363).
As Railion Nederland class 6400 is actually too large and powerful for shunting and Railion Deutschland was in need of extra mainline diesel locomotives, it was decided to swap some locomotives class 6400 for shunters class 363. The first arrived in 2007, and two were actually being used in Venlo in January 2008. More followed during 2008.
The numbers currently (September 2008) used are 363 633/712/716/723/727/825/833. In July 2009 nrs. 727 and 833 were officially stored, although these did not have much work anyhow. Also the other ones are hardly used.
