These buffet cars offer drinks and some snacks in the evening, and a breakfast in the morning. They are a cheap replacement for a restaurant car in overnight trains. The Dutch buffet cars have been rebuilt in 1992/1993 from SNCF "Gril Express" coaches, from a series originally numbered 61 87 88-90 114 - 148. The reconstruction was done at the NS workshop in Tilburg. The livery is similar to the other coaches in overnight trains: mainly dark blue, with in light blue "Buffet" written on the coach.
With the end of (almost) all night train services from The Netherlands, these coaches are now not used anymore by NS. Three were sold to EETC, two others to Herik Rail.
