The numbering scheme of the ÖBB

The numbers of the trains consist of 8 numbers, divided in a four-digit class
number, a 3-digit running number and a computer control code of 1 number:
CCCC NNN-B
A running number of 500 and up is used for special high-speed versions
(currently used for class 1042 and 1044).
The four-digit class number is decomposed in general as follows:

- 0-5: developed in Austria or German generalized loco (i.e. class 42, 44,
50, 52)
6-8: German classes, specific to location of construction (i.e. Wuerttemberg,
Baden-Baden, Bayern ....)
9: None of the above
